More about www.feingold.org

This is just some more information on www.feingold.org, the website that I will be analyzing for my third paper. The people that interact on this site the most would be parents, medical professionals and educational professionals. Most people find out from their child's pediatrician or the program is recommended by a friend.

The purpose of this site is to inform the public about the harmful substances that are in our food and the problems that can occur. This is not a diagnosis or a prescription, but a healthy diet and does not replace medication. However in severe cases with the aid of medication, one may have more success treating issues on the program than with just medication alone. The Feingold association is a non-profit organization that is ran by volunteers. They contact companies and look for foods that are free of synthetic colorings, flavorings, Aspartame, and synthetic preservatives BHA, BHT,and TBHQ.

The site works really well actually! I checked every link and they all work, big surprise right! Well to be honest I was expecting a few links to not work since this is ran by volunteers. It's a fairly simple layout with three button links along the top underneath that there are pictures of success stories and a video you can watch. There is a column on the left side of the page, this is where the main menu is located. Under the success stories and video the rest of the page has two columns. The site is easy to navigate there are a few links that will take you away from the main site that you will have to navigate back to them from. The ordering process is easy and secure transaction. The site may take a while to read through due to all the information listed.

The majority of the site is information, however as a parent looking for a solution I found this very thorough. They have studies, and success stories, my son's pediatrician recommended this program to us. They give you all the tools that you could need when you become a member, they offer a shopping guide to tell you what foods that are approved and where they can be purchased from. This program is basically just going back to the way food used to be, when it was pure and free from additives. This isn't just for kids too, it's for anyone that is experiencing any of the symptoms that would like to improve their health.

3 other blogs

The first blog that I looked at was Dave Ramsey's. Dave is a Christian, and he has his own radio show as well as a T.V. show. Dave is most well known for Financial Peace University, and My Total Money Makeover. Dave's blog is from his radio show so they list the caller's question and Dave's advice to the caller. Dave's advice pertains to a wide range of financial topics. From how to get out of debt, divorce, credit scores, marriage and money and many more. Dave has a wide variety of followers'. My husband and I learned about him from our Church in N.C. where we took his Financial Peace University. There was a wide variety of people there too. From young married couples that want to get on the right track now so that they won't have money arguments all the time. To older couples that wanted to get a few things paid off and continue building their retirement. There were even kids about 14 years old in the class with their parents. Most of his followers are people that are trying to get out of debt.

The second blog is Regent Law Family Restoration. I was introduced to this blog by my sister-in-law, this blog is by one of her Professors. The author mainly focus' on articles that pertain to family law. She usually talks about issues that are important to family restoration. When she has people come to her that want a divorce she makes a deal with them that they give it a year and go through counseling. If they still decide they want a divorce then she will give them a discount on the cost. My sister-in-law told me that 5 out of 10 change their minds, and stay together. Which I think is wonderful that someone is still sticking up for marriage and not just letting people give up easily. She is a Christian also, Regent is a Christian school. Most of her followers' are students.

The last blog is allDay which the official blog for the TodayShow.com. Their archives go back to 2007. They offer recommended topics as well as other blog links and links to articles on TodayShow.com. This show has a wide variety of topics that are open for discussion. This blog appeals to a large community because of the variety of topics discussed. Most of this community are people that prefer to be up to date on what is going on in the world. They also offer a spot where you can select to follow them on your social networks.

"SU Officials' Use of Facebook creates problems for Students"

The article “SU Officials’ Use of Facebook creates problems for Students” presented a very common problem with today's social networking sites. For some reason people have no problem putting pictures up that might have them in unfavorable situations. For the student in the article it was referencing an event that he was planning. It's hard for one to be angry with School Officials for doing their part to ensure that this event didn't take place. They were doing the right thing, if something would have happened to an underage student and they had looked the other way they would have been liable for that incident that could have been prevented. Potential employers probably look at people's profiles more than they know. That is where people are going to show how they really act on the weekends or their spare time. Looking on these social networking sites could show them that you may be into partying and they may not want to hire you because you may be late or hung-over from your late night activities. That's a risk that employers are not willing to take. People just need to realize that putting your risqué pictures up, allows people to prejudge you and make assumptions about the type of person you are.

We had this happen in the Marine Corps, where we had a “don't ask don't tell” policy. However Marines had no idea that our Battalion Sergeant Major was looking at people's profiles and a few people had listed their sexuality and had pictures as well. If you accuse someone of being a certain sexuality you must have proof in the form of pictures or witnessing the event first hand. Little did these Marines know that because they chose to list that information and post those pictures that they would be kicked out with a Dishonorable Discharge. This meant that they would loose all benefits entitled to them as well as their GI Bill privileges.

People are loosing track of what it means to have private things in our lives. Some of my friends have posted nasty things about a spouse on there during their divorce or even if they're in a fight. For reasons like these we need to remember what is personal and shouldn't be public knowledge. People cause problems in relationships just by their replies to your posts’. We have to remember that the Internet is not private, just because that's what you set your profile settings to.

Investigating an Electronic Community

I will be investigating the website www.feingold.org for this paper. I want to bring attention to this site because they provide insightful information. They are a non-profit organization. This site interests me because our oldest son, has some behavioral issues and we do not want him to be placed on medication. I had never heard of this organization before my son's Doctor recommended that we look into this as an alternative. I look forward to presenting this site to the class!

"A Vision of Students Today"

This was an interesting YouTube video. You know a lot of people say that actions speak louder than words, but this video used the words written down with silence to get the message through to the viewer. I agreed with the majority of the opinions and assumptions. I have heard of so many people saying that they are on facebook while they're in class. I've watched other people texting or even playing sudoku while they should be paying attention to what the professor is saying. Yet those are the students that wonder why they are failing the class. I recently heard someone say that if it wouldn't be appropriate to do a crossword then whatever else you're planning on doing isn't either. Too many people are going into debt to go to school, get their degree and then they can't get into the field they studied. Or everything they learned isn't applicable to what they will be doing when they get into the field. The amount of debt that students' graduate with is unbelievable! If more of us became educated about financial decisions from a young age we would learn to tell our money what to do instead of the other way around.

While the video brought up many good points about today's students, I feel like the main point is that our society is getting to wrapped up in technology to appreciate the real things in life. We are spiraling down and the morality of people keeps getting worse. We need to take responsibility for our lives instead of just lying back, letting them pass us by and then wonder how we got to this point.

Topic for paper 2

I wrote down a few ideas, but since I haven't been at Eastern for very long I have only came across a few issues that I feel may need to be addressed. I am considering Why don't we have a local farmer's market on campus? This would provide a much healthier alternative to eating on campus as well as a more convenient location for those that do not have cars and cannot walk to a grocery store to purchase their fruits and vegetables. This would also help bring in revenue for the local farmers. As a commuter I don't always have the time to pack my food and I would greatly appreciate an opportunity to have fresh fruits and vegetables. Most people don't realize that the food that you eat can have an effect on you mind, if you are eating more fresh and nutritious foods you will be able to accomplish more than if you are eating fast food everyday.

1st paper topic

I am considering a few communities that are closer to home, since I live about forty-five minutes away from campus. I have a couple in mind that I would like to look at, the first being a Country Club if they won't let me then I will look at a Golf Course. I will be posing a few questions. What made you choose this specific establishment? How much is time/money is spent a year on this hobby? What is the average age of the customers? Do their employee's enjoy their jobs? How exclusive are these establishments?

I may change some of the questions that I plan to answer, if I do I will post my updates.

First Post Ever!

This is my first blog and first post! I went to Virginia Beach this weekend and had a great time. We stayed with my brother-in-law and his wife, then to make it better our best friends that are still on Active duty in Jacksonville, NC came up too. This was a long drive for a short time but it was well worth it. The guys enjoyed golfing and we went to the beach and caught a movie! Our kids had a great time playing together since they haven't seen each other in about eight months. We watched fireworks on the beach for the fourth too.
